1. What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
The Long Winters – Scent of Lime. Well it’s probably not the first song I heard, really, but it’s the first I remember. It was at a live free in-store performance at Sonic Boom. I'd never heard them before. This song stuck out.
2. What is your favorite album by 2?
Chad VanGaalen – They’re all so amazing and beautiful, but I have to go with the most morbid here, Infiniheart
3. What is your favorite lyric that 1 has sung?
Cloud Cult – Purpose "There must be purpose here cause most of us keep wakin up, don’t you think it’s pretty here its unexpectedly predictable so sloppily intentional does anyone know the punch line yet?"
4. How many times have you seen 11 live?
Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s – Once!
5. What is your favorite song by 7?
Andrew Bird – probably Fake Palindromes, though Placticities is pretty close right now.
6. What is a good memory you have involving 20?
There’s not really a 20, so we’ll go with one of the ties for 19, Iron & Wine. I remember first hearing Jezebel at a house party in Milwaukee. Five of us were super nerdy and whilst everyone else was playing beer pong, we locked ourselves in a room and had a “music listening party” with wine. Yum. Each of us had prepared a mixed cd of music we were really into at the time, and we alternated each playing one song from our mix until we’d listened to all five mixes in their entireties. Jezebel by Iron & Wine really stuck out for me, and I immediately went out and got as much Iron & Wine as I could get my hands on.
7. Is there a song by 3 that makes you sad?
Um, it’s the Magnetic Fields. They’re all fucking depressing. But I guess I’ll go with I don’t want to get over you, not because I’m some lovelorn angsty teenager, but because the part where the song says “I could make a career of being blue/I could dress in black and read camus/smoke clove cigarettes and drink vermouth” totally reminds me of this one boy. Listening to this song makes me miss him…
8. What is your favorite lyric that 14 has sung?
Jens Lekman – The opposite of Hallelujah – I picked up a seashell to illustrate my homelessness/but a crab crawled out of it making it useless/and all my metaphors fell flat/and sister/it’s the opposite of hallelujah”
9. What is your favorite song by 19?
Tie. Let’s go with Antony and the Johnsons this time. And I’ll have to go with my current favorite (this seems to change often), Cripple and the Starfish.
10. How did you first get into 22?
Yann Tiersen. I probably got into Yann the same way everyone else in the world did: I saw Amelie and was immediately enchanted with the soundtrack, went out and bought it, and then proceeded to seek out everything else Yann Tiersen has ever recorded.
11. What was the first song you heard by 21?
Arrah and the Ferns – Skylark
12. What is your favorite song by 4?
Ratatat. Lex. No question.
13. What is a good memory you have involving 13?
Minus the Bear totally reminds me of my little brother because he likes them, a lot. And I like my little brother, so I’ll say he’s my good memory for this one.
14. Is there a song by 23 that makes you sad?
Bishop Allen isn’t really a very sad band. In fact, I usually listen to them when I want to feel happy.
15. What is your favorite album of 15?
Imogen Heap. Speak for Yourself. It’s the only album I own. Wow, Imogen’s pretty high on my list considering I only have one album…
16. What is your favorite lyric that 9 has sung?
Nada Surf – Hi Speed Soul “You ever feel like you’ve just landed on this earth, you see the creatures all do their dances back and forth, you get wrestles and then you join them on the floor!”
17. What is your favorite song by 8?
Sufjan Stevens – They are Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back From the Dead!! Ahhhh! Actually, maybe it’s the song title that’s my favorite…Or maybe I just don't want to admit that my favorite song is Chicago because, like, that's so unoriginal.
18. How many times have you seen 5 live?
Okkervil River – Twice!
19. What is your favourite album by 12?
Ted Leo and The Pharmacists – The Tyranny of Distance
Classic.
20. What is a good memory you have involving 25?
Tie. I’ll go with Russian Circles on this one. And OMG! the first time I saw them live was the most mind blowing experience EVER. I am not exaggerating. It was great. We were at the very front of the stage, so I was literally inches from those guys, and they are machines. They are also bad ass and they have amazing hair. This show was the first time I got my head bang on since the nineties.
21. What was the first song you heard by 18?
New Order – I’m not sure, but perhaps it was Crystal?
22. What is your favorite song by 17?
Holy Fuck – Lovely Allen
23. What is your favorite album by 24?
Tie. I’ll go with The Thermals this time, and my favorite album is definitely The Body, The Blood, The Machine. They’re all great though.
24. How many times have you seen number 10 live?
The Mountain Goats – Once!
25. When did you start listening to number 15?
Imogen Heap – It has probably only been about a year and a half.
26. How many of your top 25 have you seen live?
16. Not bad.
