I don't know how things are where you are, but from where I sit, I see redbud trees covered in pink flowers, daffodils, narcissus and tulips blooming everywhere, forsythia bushes draped in yellow blooms, and trees with that fresh blush of young green. It reawakens my penchant for seasonal playlists but I find, alas, that I don't actually have that many songs about spring, and it's funny because very few of those I do have feel anything like spring – to the contrary, just when I'm coming out of my winter blues, these songs are almost all depressing, or at least slow. But here's the playlist I'm listening to today, any recommendations of good songs about spring appreciated – not ones that make you feel like spring, but songs that are about the season itself.

Spring Song This is a very very short instrumental from tranquil atmospheric Swedish band Club 8's record "Spring Came, Rain Fell." And I mean VERY short, but it's a nice starter.

Spring Rain From the Go-Betweens record "Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express," an excellent example of them at their most melodic and cheerful. The song is one of my favorites of theirs. Also to be found on my 'rain' playlist, which is a longer one!

Jack Leaves & Back Spring I think the Blue Aeroplanes were a pretty swell underrated band, and this song is a nice example of them, though not their best. It doesn't really have all that much to do with spring, but at least it mentions it.

April & May A reasonably miserable number from David Fridlund (aka David of Swedish band David & The Citizens) but then, he specializes in turning misery into tuneful pop.

Silent Spring "Hear the grasses sing, even in this silent spring." A quiet mood piece from Bettie Serveert from their record Lamprey that takes full advantage of Carol Van Dyke's beautiful voice but is hardly one of their best.

Spring Came, Rain Fell. Another slow pretty one.

Float On. Now this Love Tractor song actually does feel kind of spring like, in that very beautiful early morning when everything is quiet and you're sitting on your porch with a cup of coffee taking it all in and feeling mellow kind of way.

But where are the happy "hooray! spring is here!" songs? Got any?
