They are totally different things, I really loved Fear of a Blank Planet for what it was and I really love this new solo release too. I can understand why certain branches of the porcupine tree fans wouldn't dig it, but seeing as I love drone music like Earth etc its not hard for me to listen to the whole album :) Also cant wait to see the film!

Yeah, I think it scrobbled most of what I played. It may take a couple of tries, but I got like 700 overall (took 4 times).

wow you just summed it up perfectly, I love that he incorporates many different styles, like drone etc that would never feature on a porcupine tree album. It gives the album a whole new dimension, but you are right it wouldn't appeal to people outside of the hardcore fan base :)

yeh that's cool, have you heard insurgentes? I'm going to presume yes, what do you think of it compared to porcupine tree albums? :)

I agree with a lot of what you said; children don't know words, but it soon begins to make sense. I think the thoughts we have at 6 months are very abstract, perhaps not even thoughts, but somehow flashes of pictures. As we get older, the pictures retain meanings, i.e. words. I cannot say thinking in a language is the same, for when you are learning a language, what you think and what you say are different. For example, in English class the other day, we had to write an essay - when I gave the teacher my essay, he stopped me to ask what a 'spoot' is. In my head, it was a spoon and it made sense to me, though were I to have verbally said it, an English speaker would have no idea what I was on about! Speaking is much better than thinking: if we do nothing but think in the language of study, we begin to create our own language, one different from the originally intended. The new language will have spoots, foks, snapkins, etc! In our head no one corrects us; it is very much one's creation.

The experiment truly sounds wonderful, but the problem with it lies not in the creator's intelligence, but in the intelligence of the followers - can the people truly be honest? Or could they lie, by saying they are being honest when they are not? Your uncle is not wrong; better design social experiments than be a cretin! I have a theory of the language complexity - are people more intelligent because of the complexity of their mother tongue, and do they become more intelligent as they study more complex languages? For example, does a person who fluently knows five simple languages (simple in grammatical structure, let's say) fare better against one that knows two languages fluently, but much more complex ones, such as Chinese and Korean? I love linguistics; I think that would be interesting to study someday ... and philosophy, particularly existentialism.

The Icelandic language is, sadly, not the leader in the category of simplicity, nor usefulness. But it's one of the more fascinating objects of study. I followed Canadian politics when I was there a few months ago (Ottawa and Montreal), but not as much now. Though what social experiment would you try out as Prime Minister? Sociology seems a wonderful field of study ... you can even devote your whole masters study to it at Science Po, which is an incredibly prestigious university here.

A guitar ... you reminded me of a man I saw in London, by the London Eye - he was an elder gentleman who sang Russian songs with an acoustic guitar - I very much enjoyed his performance. I understand what you mean about the music - a lot of influence comes form simply walking around, watching the people, their moods, the atmosphere, the weather ... one comes up with the most ideas that way. As you said, 'reaching what you thought never possible'. Although I suppose being a child and aspiring minimalist has its advantages as well ... such as planning your minimalist life thoroughly? Iceland, Sigur Ros ... ironically, I've always wished to go there as well - it's a minimalist's paradise, with the perfect weather (for me anyhow; I'd rather go to Reykjavik than the Bahamas).

Likewise. The conversations look to be wonderful ... I've heard of Into the Wild; I believe we have it here in France under the title of "Voyage au bout de la solitude". For me, there is no need to imagine - I was fortunate to have had the experience of looking at my favourite, quaint town in Germany. The feeling was amazing; but I finally began to realise of minimalism this past April, when I went to London, and lived on the minimums - waking up at 9 in the morning, walking in London everyday until 22.00, simply listening to music, going to museums, markets, squares; in particular, Yann Tiersn. Living only on soup, yogurt, mineral water/tea, and doner kebabs (all this depended on the day; not all at once, naturally!); sometimes with a Mars Bar every other day or whatnot. It was truly something everyone must experience. I look forward to the transition, though as you said, it will have to be slow - unfortunately, being a minimalist and a child at the same time doesn't quiet work out.

I just go on spiels of stuff. (that's the first time I've used that word.) I usually go with a mix of the weather and my feelings. So external and internal factors.

I'm transferring from post-rock to metal. I always do rock/classical in spring and summer then metal in fall and winter.

Yes it is senor. Well I'm trying to broaden my tastes. I believe there's good music to be found in any genre...save for hip-hop.
