Earlier today I stopped by this little music store called Al-bums on Highland St in Worcester, MA. It looked like a little hole in the wall independent record shop, which i tend to love and will always check out of i see one. Plus when I saw "Records" on the sign (and not inappropriately used to just refer to CDs…those were also listed) I knew what I had to do. It was all that I hoped it would be and more- detached employees busy watching an absurdly explicit mob movie, a cute little pug-type dog desperately carring around a loose…

This mix's theme is very general…a mix of all songs by female artists, mostly in an indie-pop/singer-songwriter vein. I titled it "Girls are Cool" it speaks the truth. Especially if you're a indie songwriter. Mmm.

1. Of Montreal- Nickee Coco and the Invisible Tree. This song is amazing and makes me incredibly happy. It's uniquely structured- telling the story through a mix of spoken word narration, sung narrative and character dialogue. The tale itself is great; about a young girl who gets lost in an invisible tree and a frantic town searching for her. The images it evokes remind me of the great Miyazaki film My Neighbor Totoro. I particularly enjoy the part about the owl translator. Adorable.

For me my music taste tends to revolve around the seasons. While my most favorite bands (pixies, pavement, radiohead, etc) tend to get a relatively equal amount of play throughout all four seasons, there's always a few bands/ genres that i correlate with particular seasons. Okay so every one in awhile a band comes around that just overwhelms me with their suckiness. I first feel upset with the music industry. Are the standards so low that something this bad can be released and marketed? Then I feel pity for the listeners- They're only looking for an easy and convenient way to hear new music (the radio). I think this was seriously the best show i've ever been to. First, Deerhoof rocked my face off. I didn't realize there were only 3 members in the band. They played in front of a backdrop screen that was setup was a camera facing the guitar pedals. This was really cool as you could see the guitarist's spastic switching on the noisier parts. I was really glad they played Milk Man. They didn't do Scream Team though. I was also upset that there was no Deerhoof merch for sale. But apart from those minor complaints it was an awesome set.…
