Music is lovely
and so are you
but life is no fairy tale...
...and there are more important things to do.
Portugal is at a turning point: if we go any step further down the ladder, there will be no return. The judicial system is losing credit and effectiveness every day; the government and the party to which it belongs are mingled with the corporate business and don't hesitate to manipulate the media to shut up whoever criticizes them; the judicial system neither accuses nor defends, and definitely doesn't help to unfold the truth; the media have no respect for court orders, publishing wiretap recordings that were supposed to be secret, selling thousands of newspapers and obviously earning lots of money from it; the main opposition party surfs the wave to get political dividends, failing to realize that this only helps to further discredit the country, with potentially disastrous economical consequences; and we stay in the middle of this muddy pool, not knowing who to trust and where to go.
This country needs a complete cleanup. We need a credible alternative, we need to put the power (politics, courts, media, economy) in the hands of decent people. We can't simply try to individually replace the scoundrels one by one, or we will become more of them: we need to form a consistent alternative outside that is fully prepared to govern the country once it takes the power. And this alternative won't be born out of the blue by spontaneous generation: it has to be build by people patiently devoted to a cause. But you can't expect anyone to volunteer, if you are not ready to do it yourself; therefore, if I feel uncomfortable about the situation, I must take a step forward -- and I'll do it now.
No more time for Last.fm. There's too much to do, too many ideas to learn, too many questions to ask, too many problems to solve, too many scoundrels to defeat. It has become a matter of survival: if none does it, Portugal will soon drown -- and the most honest people will be the first to sink. So forgive me, my friends: I must literally get real, leaving behind all the pleasures of this nice and tidy virtual world.
