After Nas' first two albums on Def Jam, he continued to proceed with more ambitious concepts such as addressing black pride with Distant Relatives with the proceedings donated to Africa to build schools.

Nas also addressed his divorce situation with Kelis in the extended final verse of Strong Will Continue.
Due to low record sales from previous albums just going gold, Def Jam limited Nas' advance on Nas' 10th album, which was supposed to be Lost Tapes Vol 2 (legitimizing the unreleased tracks after Lost Tapes Vol 1). Nas fans are still waiting for the Nas album exclusively with DJ Premier instrumentals since 2007. Nas says he might release Lost Tapes Vol 2 as a bonus along with his 10th album. Although the producer line-up seems to be better, true Nas fans get a kick out of deciphering the lyricism of the track instead of the beat.
In this stage of Nas' career, he is doing more collaborations on featured material - his return to Rubik's cube rap may allude to the third coming of illmatic. (refer to relevant tracks)
