A brief, personal musical-influence tour

So, I thought it might be fun to list a musical biography of sorts…

To kick it off, Dad brought the following artists to bring to my existence; looking back at it now, it's certainly far more cowboy-esque than I had originally considered his tastes:
The Sound of Silence
I Am, I Said
Sundown
The Gambler
King of the Road

Mom had similar, if less folksy, tastes; this is probably where I got my appreciation for over-the-top emotion:
Rainy Days and Mondays
To All The Girls I've Loved Before
Are You Lonesome Tonight?
You're So Vain
Monday, Monday

My extended family was *hugely* into disco when I was a kid, which meant I had a helluvalot of exposure to disco classics:
Good Times
We Are Family
Ring My Bell
Disco Inferno
Holiday

My cousins were into early-'80s pop fluff, house music, The Beatles' early work and (God bless 'im) Aaron gave me my first exposure to The Cure:
Eight Days a Week
Two of Hearts
I'll House You
Pump Up the Volume
Boys Don't Cry

I was all about educating myself on "The Oldies" (era: late-'50s, early '60s) before I started high school:
Crying
Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay
Respect
Diana
Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On

In my early high school years (so many boy-crushes!), I was into contemporary pop, but quickly becoming dissatisfied with it; still, here are some highlights:
Keep on Movin'
Close to You
Stay
Right Here, Right Now
Been Around the World

Bill and Fred turned me on to the '90s Alternative scene, but I found Nirvana over-rated; here are some things I totally dug:
Disarm
Plush
Immortality
Common People
Everlong

Jeff, meanwhile, got me appreciating '80s pop more than I had when I was living in it:
Enjoy the Silencel
Blue Monday
Eternal Flame
Hold me Now
Always on my Mind

Cory got me into Pink Floyd just before high school finished.

Throughout college, I survived by certain albums:
OK Computer
Dummy
Lost Highway Soundtrack
Tidal
Radio K.A.O.S.

When I started at my first full-time job, Matt and I had '70s rock/urban pub music playing a lot of the time:
Dream On
Stuck in the Middle With You
Magic Carpet Ride
Dreams
Real Wild Child

Since then, Bruce and Tim have been my primary influences in new music:
Franz Ferdinand
Demon Days
Scissor Sisters
Good News for People Who Love Bad News
Funeral

I can't say I'm big into popular hip-hop or new country, but I'm sure I'll find something that appeals to me, some day. :)
