Review: You Me at Six w/ We the Kings and Forever the Sickest Kids @ O2 Academy, Newcastle

Sat 13 Mar – You Me At Six, We The Kings, Forever the Sickest Kids

Finally got into this, 'cause my friend was reviewing it and had a spare ticket :D happy days! At least I didn't have to pay like £40 from a ticket tout outside!

So we arrived a little late but still managed to catch some of Forever the Sickest Kids. They were pretty good - the looked a little crowded on the stage with all of them, but still! They seemed to get the crowd of teenies going well, anyway, which I guess is the idea of the support bands. They played the song I know - Whoa Oh! (Me Vs. Everyone) - anyway, so I was happy :p.

We the Kings - the band who I actually wanted to see - were absolutely fantastic, despite what I've read in some less than complimentary reviews. I do love Travis Clark, though :D. They played pretty much every song I wanted to hear by them: She Takes Me High; Heaven Can Wait; Secret Valentine (which is apparently entirely about sex!); Skyway Avenue; Stay Young; and, of course, ending on Check Yes Juliet. Brothers Hunter Thomsen (guitarist) and Drew Thomsen (bassist) were wearing NUFC shirts, too, which I thought was cute :p. Also cute - how Travis' big ginger mane seemed to get bigger as the set went on… :p. But enough about that…

I've never really rated You Me at Six that much, and now I feel justified in that having seen them live - they're not all that. I mean, they can hold themselves live, and clearly their fan base adore them (this illustrated with girls throwing bras on stage!), but I just don't get the fad at all. I do quite like Save It for the Bedroom, though :p.
