アバウトミー

Well... it seems this has become quite involved. This particular last.fm site is comprised largely, though not exclusively, of music that we considered essential way back many moons ago (it still could be I guess). Even though I've attached the moniker rnr, the music from back then, represented here, was in fact all over the place. I've come to believe that it's hard to strictly define any of the pop genres we commonly make assumptions about. I was trying to create a balance of the most highly valued bands and the elements I conjecture went into whatever it was that was rock'n roll. I called the site rnr because that was what we called the music and the general ideal that back then. It seems to me that some of the sub-types couldn't be further apart: Prog rock, Psychedelic Rock, Hardcore Punk, Delta Blues, Nashville and pre-Nashville Country, early Rock n' Roll, Protest Music, Glam Rock, Math Rock, Soul, R and B, post-rock plus that period, still all over the radio, where punk and metal were loosely fused. I guess the general idea is to steer 1) away from any sensory confusion with Pop in it's multitudinous forms, 2) the Classic Rock Radio demographic or 3) a too overly pedantic (educational lesson) account of Rock music. Really the only connecting theme seems to be electric guitars and drums or scruffy acoustic and there you have it. Lately I've just been scrobbling whatever the hell I've been listening to.

I should add that revisiting all of this has gotten me re-interested in the narrative behind this music, both real-life and that anchored in real-life as is often the case.
