I love your library! So much in common and artists/bands that I'm very interested to hear more.. like Villagers!

Totally! Today I was listening a lot of their songs, their album "Becoming a Jackal" is beautiful, awesome lyrics. Downloading them already! Also, I'm pretty interested about Goldfrapp. I've never heard their songs, but I want to start! Where do I start?

Brilliant! Goldfrapp's an interesting one, it all depends on what your mood is. Following on from the Villagers vibe, maybe "Seventh Tree" or "Tales of Us" would be a good start, they have softer, acoustic and more cinematic sounding sounds. If you're in a more electronic or dirty pop mood, try "Black Cherry" or "Supernature". It's very possible you've heard songs from them already but don't know it, they're that type of group. Your taste is really diverse so I reckon you'll like them too.

HOLLY SHIT. I actually know a few of their songs and I didn't knew that. I've worked on a store that used to play a lot of their songs! But only the pop ones, like, the "Supernature" album, we used to played everyday. (It was a cd with a million songs, so we couldn't see the names). However, I've listened the album "Seventh Tree" and absolutely love it. It make me feel so nostalgic, and I really appreciate to feel that way listening to music! So, thanks AGAIN, downloading it!

Hey Rory! How's it going? (: Did you listened the new Ionna's album "Everyone Afraid to be Forgotten"? Did you like it?

Yes, absolutely great. Her vocals and lyrycs are even more deeper and better, she totally nailed it. I think you'll like it, hope so! It's worth it!

What's your AOTY shaping up to be? I don't really know because I'm indecisive, but St. Vincent has to be way up there for me.

St. Vincent is in the Top 5 for sure, quite possibly the Top 3. I don't care what people said about it, Arcade Fire's Everything Now is definitely in there too. Such a strange middle section but there's way too many songs that I just adore on that album for me to leave it out. Gorillaz released a massive album too but it's ever so slightly lacking the second half for me to comfortably say it was the best, but again I love a lot of what's on there. Lorde released a beautiful album too, Grizzly Bear's Painted Ruins was solid af, and of Queens of the Stone Age released an album with a belter opening and closing track. I guess those are my Top 6 since they came to mind haha, but St. Vincent really impressed me with hers.

Yeah Put Your Money On Me is one of the best they've ever made and also one of the best songs of 2017... I think every band just has a point where all their old fans get tired of them trying to progress their sound and just go mental on them. Everything Now was that point I guess. Happy New Year to you too!

Ah you just can't please 'em all, seems like they realise that and just went ahead and had some big fun making a record they're satisfied with, so mission accomplished as far as I can tell. :)

I think we stop thinking about how it fits together after a while and start paying attention to each song as they unfold for us.

Yeah I end up liking things a lot more when I stop feeling like I "should" love it, just because it's a favourite artist, or everyone else does, some things take ages to click. I'm happy that Gorillaz are on my list to dip in and out of now, and by the way, was your splurge of ABBA this week by any chance inspired by the new Arcade Fire single? Haha. ETA: if it's not already implied, I do love a good ABBA binge.

Exactly! I'm glad to have broadened your horizons a little bit. Hahaha am I that transparent? It was indeed; honestly, any excuse for me to go on an ABBA binge. I don't even think it sounds THAT much like ABBA but it's hard to find something else that sounds as jovial and upbeat. It just reminds me of Dancing Queen, and when I start on that one I just have to play some more...

The intro is SO dancing queen. Here's another unrelated-to-ABBA song which unfailingly makes me need to play a whole lot of ABBA straight afterwards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvD3EALtKXE. Full disclosure, we have a car that still lives way back in the CD age, and sometimes we play a nothing-but-ABBA CD on repeat, yes, in 2017. No shame whatsoever.

Silver Eye thoughts?! I feel like it's the Goldfrapp album I've been dreaming of for a long old time. Happy days.

I'm in this weird place where I do like it and appreciate how much bolder it is than Tales of Us but I don't totally love it? I just can't shake the feeling that it sags a bit in the middle or needs to be a bit longer. I think Moon in Your Mouth and Ocean are amongst the best they've ever made by the album as a whole currently doesn't beat my Goldfrapp Top 3. Maybe in time, we'll see.

Well this all makes a lot more sense! I really am enjoying Demon Days a lot thanks (much more instantaneously than their latest), and giving the rest of their stuff a proper listen pretty much based on your obsessive listening of them. They do have some awesome tunes, I totally forgot about DARE, takes me way back and I always loved it.

And I take back my Silver Eye comments, I'm in love with the whole thing, madly (but Seventh Tree remains untouchable)

XDRory
I'm glad to hear that haha, you should dip into their first album while you still love Demon Days because they both share that short of heavier, more urban sound. Once you get over the initial silliness of some tracks on Plastic Beach it just sucks you in with how bright and poppy it is, yet there's something a little bit sad about it as well. After that you should try Humanz (their latest) because it's definitely their most electronic and "pop" sounding album. They also have plenty of B-Side and Companion albums as well. Yeah I'm loving Silver Eye more that I've stopped forcing myself to love it as well. Guess it just takes time.

I want them all, of course! haha. I only just started listening to Goldfrapp extensively a couple weeks ago, so I didn't know if maybe there was a good place to download rare tracks. If not, I'm sure I can find them somewhere. By the way, I think you might like Susanne Sundfør. Take a listen to "Ten Love Songs" if you have time.

Goldfrapp B-Sides are also on youtube, where I've taken most of mine from (sshhh!!). Then again unless there have been new developments I don't think they're purchase-able anywhere? And YES, Benedict, you should give some Sundfør a listen!
操作
-
XDRory
Yeah most of them are on YouTube. I'm trying to use DropBox but I can't get it to unprivate all the songs and confirms that I knew there was a reason I hated it. But yeah if there's any you can't find out there or can only get in really LQ then pm me and we'll see if we can get something sorted.

Of the people I follow, you're the top Goldfrapp listener, so I was checking out your top tracks and albums for them. I noticed that you have a B-Side collection with some songs I've never heard. Any easy place to find those, or do I have to scour the internet?
