Joseph Arthur + Stars of Track and Field at the TLA in Philly

Tue 17 Apr – Joseph Arthur, Stars of Track and Field
I was given a ride by tenderbranson69 to this event and I have seen J.A. twice before with him. The first time I saw him perform solo and Jeff Klein opened and it it was a phenemonal show. Joseph Arthur did a live recording that night and it had some great moments like when he did There is a light that never goes out. The second time we saw him at Wxpn live again and Annie Stela opened who was great and The Lonely Astronauts debuted sans the name. Joseph joked about dubbing them the Banger's and Mash.

This show had a different atmoshpere since there weren't tables and dinner service. We got there during the Stars of Track and Field's performance which was energetic and atmospheric. I thought the singer sounded similar to my friend Chile who used to frontthe Morris Chair. I dug the light show and the leads were tasteful. The electronic rhytmic element was a nice complement to the organ on some tracks.

Joseph Arthur & the Lonely Astronauts
took the stage soon after and launched into some tracks off of Nuclear Daydream. Joseph was as entertaining as usual with quips about Philly. He remarked "It wasn't the Declaration of independance that made Phiily famous -It was you!". Later he explained Gee Whiz, the drummer picked that up from Paul Stanley's on stage antics.
Black Lexus was a highlight as well as another strong live number-Birthday Card. I enjoyed the limited number of tunes Joseph used the sequencer on, it made it seem more special and spontaneous. I liked the use of ebow and Jenn Turner's wah and volume pedal skill. I think this show would have to take second to the first time I saw Joseph Arthur solo, but a great show and would recommend seeing him and the band to anyone who is curious about their live performances.
