After the bountiful harvest of 2009, 2010 looked to bring drought and famine, but a little research (and a few great recommendations) proved the weather was just fine – dark and stormy with skin piercing snow and hail. Black Metal reigned in fearsome terror this era (year), with experimental band Deathspell Omega donning the ancient Ravencrown. Also supporting the movement are dark metallers Agalloch and October Falls, the now-progressive veteran Ihsahn, ambitious and exciting newcomers Aldaaron, and more traditional acts 1349 and Watain (who also deserve best live-act – sorry, “ritual” – of the year).
