The Top 30 Albums of 2007. Final Draft

lost list when I reformatted, will come back to this when i have some free time

2007 was certainly a jam-packed year. Even though this is my final list, I feel like there is a huge amount of albums that I either didn't get a chance to listen to or didn't listen to enough.
With that being said, here is my final list of the top 30 albums of 2007, with some honorable mentions thrown in, since I found it pretty much impossible to whittle down such a huge year into only 30 albums.

Honorable Mentions:

*Against Me! - New Wave
-There probably wasn't a more controversial album that came out this year than this one. I listened to it not knowing anything about Against Me! and enjoyed it very much, but after listening to Against Me!'s older work I can understand why many of their fans feel such disdain for it. Even with that in mind, it is still a very good album.
Recommended Tracks: Up The Cuts, Piss and Vinegar, The Ocean

*Blitzen Trapper - Wild Mountain Nation
-I love this album in all it's 70's guitar legend rock-out glory, but sometimes it seems way to schizophrenic.
Recommended Tracks: Wild Mountain Nation, Miss Spiritual Tramp, Country Caravan

*Apparat - Walls
-I love the songs on this album with lyrics and vocals, but the instrumental tracks (with the exception of the Fractales) leave something missing.
Recommended Tracks: Fractales Pt. 2, Holdon, Arcadia

*Sage Francis - Human The Death Dance
-Oh Sage, you're so emo, but I guess that's what makes you great. Sage remains in top form on this album, although I found sometimes the beats were better than his lyricism for the first time. Note to hip-hop artists: no more songs about your life story.
Recommended Tracks: Civil Obedience, Midgets And Giants, Got Up This Morning

*!!! - Myth Takes
-Wish I had more of a chance to give this album some listens, but sometimes !!! just frustrates me too much. Still a good album by any means.
Recommended Tracks: Must Be The Moon, Yadnus, All My Heroes are Wierdos

Now to the real list.

30. The Good Life - Help Wanted Nights
-Sometimes you just want to be emo, and if you don't want to listen to Taking Back Sunday, this album is a pretty good option.
Recommended Tracks: A Little Bit More, Some Tragedy, So Let Go

29. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
-Hell Yes, that's pretty much all I can say about this album. any album with the opening lyrics-
"I'm feeling rough, I'm feeling raw,
I'm in the prime of my life.
Let's make some music, make some money,
find some models for wives.
I'll move to Paris, shoot some heroin,
and fuck with the stars.
You man the island and the cocaine
and the elegant cars."
-is pretty awesome in my book
Recommended Tracks: Time To Pretend, Electric Feel, Kids

28. Future of the Left - Curses
-Best noise I heard all year
Recommended Tracks: The Lord Hates A Coward, Real Men Hunt In Packs, adeadenemyalwayssmellsgood

27. Field Music - Tones of Town
-This album was one of my favorites when it came out, but because it came out so early in such a year, it didn't stand the test of time. Still a great album though, albeit a little short.
Recommended Tracks: A House Is Not A Home, Working To Work, Place Yourself

26. White Rabbits - Fort Nightly
-This band has such an interesting sound, familiar but also hard to explain at the same time.
Recommended Tracks: The Plot, Navy Wives, I Used To Complain Now I Don't

25. The New Pornographers - Challengers
-Certainly not the best of their work, but when you put Neko Case, Carl Newman, and Dan Bejar together, good things are bound to happen regardless.
Recommended Tracks: Myriad Harbor, Go Places, Failsafe

24. The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters
-This album packs so much emotion into such a small package that sometimes it is hard to listen to. You got your emo in my post-rock!
Recommended Tracks: Cold Days From The Birdhouse, That Summer, at Home I Had Become the Invisible Boy, I'm Taking The Train Home

23. Justice - Cross
- This album was pretty tough to place. I was pretty obsessed with it for a couple months but then it started to get very old quick. Still a good album, reminiscent of early Daft Punk, which makes me hope that these guys have even better albums in them.
Recommended Tracks: Newjack, Phantom, pt. II, DVNO

22. Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog
-A little change up in sound from Sam. It took a little getting used to considering I'm a fan of his more lo-fi work, but he makes it work wonderfully.
Recommended Tracks: House By The Sea, Wolves (Song of the Shepherd's Dog), Resurrection Fern

21. The Besnard Lakes - The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse
-This band and The Twilight Sad are single handedly reviving prog rock.
Recommended Tracks: Disaster, And You Lied To Me, Ride The Rails
