old stuff

So, yeah, I had to write this for the school paper. As crappy as it is, it's probably still better than the vast majority of stuff in there, sadly enough.

Also, help me with my Halloween playlist here.

My Girl Wants To Be a Zombie
This is a typical short, catchy Briefs song. Unsurprisingly, it's about a girl who wants to be a zombie.

Zombie Noise
The Meteors claim to have invented the "psychobilly" genre when they formed in 1980. This song, from their influential album "Wreckin' Crew," is typical of the style.

Halloween
The Misfits' songs often centered around horror movie-type themes, so Halloween was a natural choice of subject. This song, originally released as a single in 1981, has more recently been covered by AFI.

Ghosts
"Ghosts" was originally written by The Jam. This cover (solo except for the "ghostly choir" credited in the linter notes) is from the Tell Balgeary, Balgury Is Dead EP.

Monster Mash
This song, about monsters having a party, actually reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart when it was released in 1962. Later, Bobby Pickett attempted to continue his success with "Monster's Holiday," a Christmas-themed version. The Misfits have covered this song.

Howling At the Moon (Sha-La-La)
This song, written by Dee Dee Ramone, is from the 1984 Ramones album Too Tough to Die. While it may sound slightly different than the Ramones hits everyone knows, it's still a classic.

Salem Girls
Big D & the Kids Table have a 10-year tradition of playing Halloween shows. Last year, they released the Salem Girls EP in honor of the occasion. This song is meant to serve as a reminder of the events in Salem, where (as anyone who has read "The Crucible" in English class knows) 24 innocent people were executed for witchcraft.

Ghostfire
Tiger Army is one of the newer and more popular psychobilly bands. This song is from their latest album.

Cantare Del Morte
This song is from the early Tsunami Bomb EP "Mayhem on the High Seas," which also contained songs like "Rotting Vampire Eyeballs." The song is a warning to children against being eaten by monsters.

Fashion Zombies!
The Aquabats, everyone's favorite superhero punk band, intended this song to be a critique of kids who dress alike simply because others are doing so. However, the lyrics could be interpreted to be about literal zombies nearly as well.
