waynekings "But the English are half celts" -- Actually, the only one of the "Celtic" regions where people are even remotely Celtic, genetically speaking, is Galicia (and they're still more Iberian than Celtic). Ireland, Wales, Isle of Man, and Scotland are ~80% Iberian (Basque) and ~20% Germanic (Norse). England is about 60/40 Iberian-Germanic. Celtic culture was introduced to the British Isles when traders from Gaul arrived and the tribal chiefs began to use their language and it eventually trickled down and ended up replacing their own language due to being more practical. The Celts (mainly located in modern day France and Germany) were later wiped to extinction (through extermination and assimilation) by the Romans in modern France, and the Southern Germanic tribes in modern Germany. Their culture, however was preserved in Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Galicia and Brittany. Celtic culture died in England when the Romans conquered them. [3] midointhisright?

daifullpelt Hi we noticed you love folk music. We are Celtic singer-songwriters from the UK with nine albums and two ep's released since 2006. We were placed a semi-finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest 2009 for the track 'Lady of the Isles' and we have just heard that out of four tracks we have entered this year, (2010) three were judged to 'high' semi-finalists (borderline finalists) and one semi-finalist.** All our music is original and based on Celtic/medieval legends. We respect traditional Celtic folk and heritage (all the legends are carefully researched) but we also use contemporary instruments members: David: producer/arranger/multi-instrumentalist/vocals/harmonies Maxie: lyrics/lead vocals You're welcome to check us out on http://www.reverbnation.com/serundal www.myspace.com/serundalmusic www.serundal.com ** from our new album 'Land of the Sixth Moon' The Sisters of Caer The Sword of Destiny Don't let the Daylight Break and from our E.P 'Yule' White Stag

alqadia i like only the musics from Ireland or musician who is the descendant of an Irish ancestor.i think the spirit of celtic music roots in celtic culture, and it's so mystery that i don't think anyone other countries could attain.if they sing the folks of their own nation, the better is to give their style another name.

shalotka Theoretically "Celtic" music should be music with the elements of folk from the regions influenced by Celtic culture (Ireland, North France and so on). But people here tag everything that has folk influences (really ANY kind of folk) or is inspired by medieval and renessaince music. And now excuse me as I go and tag a few artists as not celtic.

SirAlecHendrix thx, we are the people that write the wikipedia, and i can read articles :-) my question is, can people on last.fm tell me what celtic music really is, or how do they realize it when listening to a track? or can they only tag it all over the place because artists are BRANDED as 'celtic', no matter what? (honestly, this is what i'm beginning to suspect)

SirAlecHendrix anyone can explain to me, what 'celtic' music is ?
