I interpret the banana as a symbol of discovering, I mean, you see his piece of art and Warhol advices you to peel slowly and see what's under the skin, to discover the music underneath the banana and it pretty much represent everything warhol's art stands for in general, do something vulgarly shallow to show what's deep inside of it, but you have to do the peeling. Just my interpretation.

"Could someone please explain in metaphysical terms the relevance of the unpeeled banana to me? Well... I can explain the importance and possible meaning of it. There are two, actually... The first is that it is supposed to resemble a penis and that peeling it would show one underneath. The second is that the banana is supposed to symbolize death. Banana's are weak... they bruise easily and rot at a quick rate. So, in a sense, mankind could be compared to it. Of course, both of these are just assumptions made by people and no-one will ever really know... I don't really want to know either. Art is supposed to be individually interpreted. Not to mention it adds a bit of mysteriousness to the album.

I can't imagine some people's reaction to this music when it came out. If I was alive when this came out and heard songs like "Venus in Furs" and "Heroin", I'd be fucking terrified.
