I've always thought they were just an okay band overhyped by /mu/, but I gave them a better listen and damn they are indeed very good. Gotta dive deeper in their discography

i feel like people who don't get swans' music, especially the trilogy stuff misses some points. what I've realized after listening to all these albums is that swans' music is about being in the moment and let it flow. "screen shot" also points this out with its lyrics as well. it's not enjoyable if you're not feeling like you're experiencing the present. therefore it's very bad for background listening. another point, take a good listen to the intro of bring the sun. on first glance there's nothing interesting going on musically and they play the same stuff for a few minutes. but it SOUNDS absolutely beautiful and mixed very well. there's a very heavy emphasis on the sound. they can make musically very simple ideas into great sounding stuff, also ugly sounding stuff as well. the sheer length of some songs alone make them feel like massive universe devouring entities. i just called songs entities i'm ending writing this comment.

it will never stop to amaze me, hearing every little detail they put in their music. Literally sounds like every frequency is occupied by some almost unhearable sound and it's... it's quite insane. And I don't even have good headphones, I'm using some 12 dollar earphones on main and even then I can focus on each little sound and always be amazed. One of the bands ever

At the Gdańsk live show 2 days ago, they kicked off with the usual Beggar, while the standing crowd was initially cordoned off behind rows of seats closer to the stage. After about 30 minutes, Michael came down from the stage, approached the security guard, hit his phone and unhooked the tape that was closing the crowd off. We immediately rushed towards the front of the stage, headbanged, and had an amazing time. Michael frequently smiled. Such a true exemplar of confidence and charisma.

I just saw them. They played an hour long version of The Beggar. May have been the greatest thing I've heard live.

I hope one day Gira will release demos of Greed/Holy Money era. It'd be nice to have a compilation similar to BtBJtJ compilation of Cop/Young God era demos
