How tragic is it that we'll never know the real lyrics to the greatest song of all time. Though maybe it wouldn't be as good without Bernard Sumner's interpretation. Regardless, those people who were able to hear Ian Curtis and Joy Division play it live are so lucky.

Version 1 is well produced. The bass drives the song, the drums are powerful, and the vocals are haunting. Version 2 feels more dry and suppressed. The bass, for me, does not take the lead in this version, the drums feel dry too, the vocals are a bit obscure and muted. Both versions of the song are still good, however I just prefer version 1's production and mixing.

Version 1 is on the cusp of perfection, warm and all-encompassing. Version 2 feels as cold as ice.

I still can't accept that Ian had no chance to record in good quality what is in my opinion his masterpiece [6]

arguably their best song, it fits the gap between JD and NO in a way that nothing else did. One of my absolute favorites.

they were one of the best bands to capture the entire feeling of 'melancholy', in my opinion
