for everyone who keeps saying stuff like "no body understood classical guitar as Albeniz did!", please bare in mind that Albeniz never wrote anything but for piano. The guitar versions were written by other composers such as Andres Segovia. [2]

well, the bulk of pre mid 20th century spanish classical 'guitar' pieces are transcriptions, but the original piano pieces, if at all folkloric, tend to be based on guitar music, hence are so idiomatic when transcribed for guitar. one could almost say a lot of the original piano pieces are transcriptions of guitar music. grey, grey, the world is grey

Francisco Tarrega was also responsible for setting some of Albeniz' piano works to guitar (Asturias being one of Tarrega's arrangements.)
