Bangunan dua lantai itu berdiri di jalan Benda Raya, Kemang, salah satu kawasan glamor di Jakarta. Dari luar ia terlihat cukup mewah. Di malam hari, cahaya lampu neon berwarna agak kuning berpendar ramah, membuat warna cat tembok lantai dasar yang dijadikan distro itu tampak mahal. Ketika kita masuk melalui pintu hidroliknya, hawa sejuk yang mengalir dari pendingin-ruangan memberi perasaan nyaman. Di sana kita bisa menjumpai begitu banyak barang yang akan membuat seorang pecinta musik rock menelan air liurnya sendiri berkali-kali jika melihatnya. Vinyl-vinyl berdiri saling tertumpuk di salah satu rak yang menghadap ke pintu masuk. Ada Out of Step-nya Minor Threat, Everything Went Black-nya Black Flag, The Crew-nya 7Seconds, Venom, Rush, serta Duran Duran; dan itu baru beberapa.

This is here mostly for self-reference, but I suppose it's also good for some random dude's opinion.

Out of 5 stars. Factors in band's performance and mostly the amount of fun I had. I've omitted bands I just don't care about (mostly opening bands).
1 star= Not seeing again
2 stars= good, will only see if it's very convenient and cheap
3 stars= very good, most likely will see again, even at the expense of convenience
4 stars= Superb. Very, very likely to be at the next nearby show.
4.5-5 stars= Incredible. If they're in the area, I'm not missing it.

Sun 27 Sep – The Hold Steady, Still Life Still

There are so many reasons why I love The Hold Steady. One, the band members are my age, so they are old enough to know better. Second, the lead singer/songwriter and lead guitarist grew up in the upper Midwest and often reference their geography in their songs. I also grew up in the upper Midwest, so I get the references. Thrice, their music is obviously highly influenced by 1980s college radio, which I listened to obsessively as a teenager. Combine these facts and you can see why I love their music.

I have lived/am currently living some of their lyrics. "...and the early 7Seconds taught me some of life's most valuable lessons..." (Stay Positive) I used to lie to my parents about going to 7Seconds shows and get home after curfew and get my ass kicked. "...I said it's great to see you're still in the bars..." (Barfruit Blues) 99 out of 100 times when I am out at the bars, I am the oldest one there. "...we kissed in your car and drank from your purse. …
