Also, new clip on Sigure's YouTube channel! SOSOS. https://youtu.be/TatA0ldojNY Sounds pretty cool, I still can't believe this stuff is actually coming from a popular artist on a major label. Not that different from i'mperfect and the last two singles, but since they've honed their style to a fine art by this point, I'm not complaining.

I'd say that Sigure's music is very melodic but it has a very different sort of vibe than most popular music - lots of suspended, 7th, and 9th chords and melodies that are more complex than what you usually hear in pop music. That haunting sort of melody is really evident in the intro to Acoustic's live performances.

[Continued] Closely listening I also discovered that at small key moments in the music the music is almost mirroring TK's singing. Though for the most part a song will have various musical notes thrown into one song like others who are Ling Tosite Sigure fans have pointed out which is what might be adding variety to the whole of the music. They are adding just a small amount of musical melody? to capture your attention but not a lot. In other words, this is music that will not get unpleasantly stuck in your head without you wanting that but instead you will want to return to listening to the music because you genuinely want to capture the music again.

I have been listening to Acoustic [Live] and Red Temptation [Live] nonstop. Then it hit me. I know some of you on the shoutbox say that Ling Tosite Sigure's music has melodic prowess but I am thinking that might not be the case. When I listen to more Pop based music that is what I find melodic. It gets stuck in your head but with Ling Tosite Sigure when I listen to their music afterwards I cannot remember a single musical note or the whole. I think what is actually happening is that TK's voice is melodic itself. Can that be possible for an individual to have a melodic singing voice or am I just crazy?

I heavily recommend the Best of Tornado Hyper Tornado Edition. The photobook has many photos and one of the discs has fantastic sound quality. Inside look photos: http://wp.me/p4tvXf-1QI WARNING: The whole band looked very young once.

Also: most folks compare LTS to "The Fall of Troy" anyway, but I bet it's more or less instrumental-based similarity...

Crap. I just finished listening to all of just a Moment. It's incredible! [Laughs] Hearing TK's singing made me feel so good! It's like a lighter side to Ling Tosite Sigure's usually aggressive rock sound. Obvious divergence since their edgier sound can tend to wear me out. Overall, I think in this album you can see that TK has a real gift for singing which would later be further put to use in his solo music project. I think just a Moment and Flowering along with Fantastic Magic should keep me entertained for a while.

Very unrelated. Something I need help on and that is a re-post from TK's solo music page: Okay. Guys I have a problem. Let's see. I want to buy the Unravel Acoustic Version by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure since there was a recent decision to release it but I cannot from Itunes Japan. I researched into this more. And found this: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=424007 But, the issue I have is where to find a reliable 500 yen [ iTunes Japan Music Card] and also when you have to enter an address on Itunes Japan. Does the address have to be situated in Japan or can you really just any old address. In that case, wouldn't it stop you from proceeding? If anyone can verify if this is a trustworthy seller for an Itunes Japan Music Card: https://www.japan-codes.com/shop/itunes-japan-code-500jpy/ Let me know.

@ftktfw How about just A moment ? In my book, this one is actually a mix of their two directions and has to be my favourite by them.

    5月 2015
  • CSthereader

ftkftw-Nice that you point that out. I thought that same thing when it comes to I'mperfect. Lovely textures that come together nicely as a whole and the variety of Still a Sigure Virgin? is sure to keep you distracted longer. Those two directions are good but while I have not listened to #4 and Inspiration is DEAD I have heard a few songs here and there on Youtube but I don't really like their 'raw' direction. Seems way too unpolished to me. Unrefined. Nice observations!

  • ftkftw

On the one hand, I love the texture of i'mperfect and the explosive variety in still a Sigure virgin?, but on the other hand #4 and Inspiration is DEAD are more "raw" and experimental, like they are still exploring their post-hardcore/indie sound direction. Such a hard choice to pick my favorite 時雨 album now.

Ok. I will venture to say Sony has unblocked the region locking they had on some of Ling Tosite Sigure's most current Youtube music videos. In other words, for those in the USA you can now view them without them being officially blocked for you.

HaKU has the closest sound to their newest stuff. I would have considered "Who what who what" to be a song of theirs if it was an instrumental song.

The Novembers are probably closest to LTS overall (though I've never liked them very much and feel that they're an uninspired knockoff). Cinema Staff is more upbeat but has a similar complexity to their music, although they don't even approach Sigure's melodic prowess. Really, if you like Sigure, I'd skip the obvious Western band mentions (Mars Volta! Fall Of Troy! Receiving End Of Sirens!) and suggest you check out classic emo styled bands like Algernon Cadwallader, Mock Orange (only their first two albums), CSTVT, Park Jefferson, Cap'n Jazz, Mineral, Braid, etc.

Perfect! I kind of was hoping for a mini photobook. And photos of the band from 2004-2013! Too good. Yes, I am such a big fan of Ling Tosite Sigure. So spending $100 is no problem. I can make accommodations for Ling Tosite Sigure anytime. I kind of feel their music is worth it. It is a kind of "name your price thing" for me. Thanks again iijamak for all the good information.

@CSthereader : The photobook is a 25x25cm square book containing approximatively 100 pages : 20 pages containing the lyrics of the songs along with photos from TK, 70 pages with photos of the band from 2004 to 2013 (it ends with the concert at the budokan), a 6 page interview (in japanese) -and a few pages containing photos of 345 and Pierre Nakano taken by TK. The packaging of the whole hyper tornado edition is really classy. If you're fan of the band (and if you can afford to spend about 100$) go ahead...

FuzzyxPickles, well, actually I don't see why anyone would like to make comparisons to Ling Tosite Sigure's music to other bands. Categorizing seems pretty dull considering trust me I have heard my share of American rocks bands and British rock bands. Of which British rock bands are tops. But Ling Tosite Sigure really are quite unique and I think with them it is best not to classify them since they are rather unorthodox. I mean categorizing is ok to get a feel for the genre but there at times when a band breaks the mold so much it becomes unnecessary.

PokeBaal-I can't wait to get my own copy of Best of Tornado. With songs like Beautiful Circus, Illusion is Mine, and Abnormalize it is sure to be good. I am kind of on the fence of which version should go with Limited Edition or the Hyper Tornado Edition. I want the Hyper Tornado Edition mostly because it comes with the photobook that has many photos of the band. I just wonder the size of the actual photobook. That will probably sway my choice.
