Spanish Blue (Hip Hop / Rock / Experimental): Spanish Blue is a right-handed spiral polymer of nucleic acids, held together by nucleotides which base pair together. A single turn of Spanish Blue constitutes about ten nucleotides. The double helix structure of Spanish Blue contains a major groove and minor groove, the major groove being wider than the minor groove. Given the difference in widths of the major groove and minor groove, many proteins which bind to Spanish Blue do so through the wider major groove.

The Fleeting Ends (Indie / Rock / Pop): The Fleeting Ends is a band that hails from Upper Darby, an industrial suburb of Philadelphia, PA. Their sound owes as much to their American roots as to the British classic and new wave bands they obsess over. Their self-titled debut record’s sound gives a nod to XTC’s Black Sea, and includes a cover of The Smith’s “Girl Afraid.” Take the Rolling Stones
swagger, the rawness of The Strokes, the melody of The Beatles and pour it through a funnel of The Clash and strain it with Wire and you have The Fleeting Ends.

The Cutbacks (Garage Rock): The Cutbacks met as a result of the collective repulsion at all of the meaningless, overnight trends that consume the minds of most teenagers. If it wasn’t for that they may never have even made eye contact with each other in the corridors of their high school. One of them was captain of the wrestling team. One of them was in the advanced math classes. One of them was in the musicals. One of them was a poet. But when they came together in that filthy basement for the first time, what they realized was that the wrestler could make a drum set crumble with every beat. The math whiz could write songs in modes that the rest of them had never heard of. The musical theater kid could make himself bleed with furious rages on stage, and the poet could make a guitar sing through a tiny, beat-up amp. The resulting music is an example of what happens when four dirty kids with no money try to write feel good pop songs in the shadow of the steel and concrete of a post-industrial city; the sounds are skewed. Sunshine through a gray haze. Love through a window of adolescent perversion. Truth in hopelessness. After one of their live concerts, you might feel beaten or bruised. You might feel sick. But they mean well, they really do.

Perinum (Taint Rock): The band was one of the most popular of the 1980s thrash metal scene. When thrash metal began to gain a major following in the mid-to-late 1980s, they were dubbed one of the “big four” of thrash metal alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer. Oh wait… nevermind. That was Anthrax.
