The night will be aided by alcoholic refreshments, bar snacks and vigorous dancing prompted by original 60s sounds from Shindig Hugh and Jeff Dexter, ably support by our residents Jonny 5 and Benoit & Namedrop.
They were the original working class rebels, post-war Britain 's first dandies. The mods went from East End Jewish roots in the late 50s to to ska, soul, parkas, scooters and scrapping in Brighton in the early 1960s. We'll be discussing their origins, the fashions, the music and where it all went wrong (and right).
In the first of DJhistory's two-monthly Smart Chats, we've drafted in a stellar cast of dandies to sift through the crap and nail just how many buttons one should have on a well-made whistle.
The panel consists of Paul Gorman, author of the brilliant book, The Look; Jeff Dexter the celebrated DJs at Tiles and, later, Middle Earth; Lloyd Johnson owner of Johnsons, in Kensington Market and Kings Road and Mickey Modern, reputed to be the first mod in south London.
They will be aided by alcoholic refreshments, bar snacks and vigorous dancing prompted by original 60s sounds from Shindig Hugh and Jeff Dexter, ably support by our residents Jonny 5 and Benoit & Namedrop.
